Outpatient Hemodialysis

Hemodialysis is an outpatient procedure performed three times a week for four hours. A registered nurse, a licensed practical nurse, and a certified Hemodialysis technician perform it.

But how does it work?

By circulating blood through a dialyzer outside the body, it removes toxins and fluids, assists with blood pressure control, and regulates chemical imbalances. Access to the circulatory system is required through an arteriovenous fistula in the arm or a temporary catheter placed in the chest.

Home Hemodialysis

Home Hemodialysis with the NxStage System One is a convenient, shorter treatment option typically performed five or six days per week. Registered nurses work with patients and partners to teach them how to care for themselves at home, allowing them to control their therapy. The system is designed for simplicity, flexibility, and portability without compromising safety. Some benefits of home hemodialysis include:

  • Reduced heart stress
  • Improved sleep
  • Faster recovery
  • Improved physical intimacy
  • Increased energy
  • Improved blood pressure control
  • Feeling in control of treatment and life
  • Fewer nutritional restrictions
